Premiile Oscar 2018. Lungmetrajul fantasy „The Shape of Water“ este marele câştigător al premiilor Oscar 2018, după ce a primit cele mai multe statuete şi a fost desemnat Cel mai bun film. Actorii Sam Rockwell şi Frances McDormand au câştigat Oscaruri pentru interpretările din „Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri“.
„The Shape of Water“ a câştigat cea mai râvnită statuetă Oscar 2018, la categoria Cel mai bun film, dar şi pe cea pentru Cel mai bun regizor, în persoana cineastului mexican Guillermo del Toro, în ciuda acuzaţiilor de plagiat ce i-au fost aduse. Mai mult, „The Shape of Water“ a fost şi filmul cu cele mai multe nominalizări, concurând la 13 categorii, dar şi cel cu cele mai multe victorii, un total de patru, inclusiv pentru Cea mai bună coloană sonoră şi Cea mai bună scenografie. Poate că a pierdut marele premiu deşi era principalul favorit, însă drama cu accente comice „Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri“ a dominat categoriile de interpretare.
Frances McDormand a câştigat Oscarul pentru Cea mai bună actriţă în rol principal, datorită interpretării unei mame hotărâtă să facă dreptate cu orice preţ, iar Sam Rockwell pe cel pentru Cel mai bun rol secundar, graţie transformării uluitoare într-un poliţist rasist şi volatil. „Veteranul“ Gary Oldman şi-a împlinit visul de a câştiga un Oscar, primindu-l pentru portretizarea magistrală a lui Winston Churchill în „Darkest Hour“, în timp ce Allison Janney a fost recompensată cu prestigioasa statuetă pentru rolul de sprijin ca mama abuzivă a celebrei patinatoare americane Tonya Harding din filmul „I, Tonya“.
